August 6, 2023

Dear Parish Family:

Summertime is a time for picnics. Often, it is also a time for family picnics that serve as family reunions. It’s a chance to be together, to catch up with each other, find out what is going on in the family, share some great food, play some games, and celebrate the bonds of family and love.

A parish is a family of families. Our Parish Picnic is a chance for us to come together as a parish family and spend time with each other, find out what is new and exciting, enjoy some great food and entertainment, and celebrate the good news and good works of Good Shepherd.

Our Parish Picnic this year will be on Sunday, August 20, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Parish Hall. Please plan on attending this exciting and special day for our parish family. The day will include some traditions as well as innovations that will make it extra special.

Just like family picnics are a chance to catch up on what’s happening, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the picnic, our Parish Ministries and Organizations will have displays to share what they do. Like last year, we will have a Time and Talent Passport to be stamped at each display.  Completed passports will be entered into a special drawing for a $100 Amazon Gift Card. There will also be prizes for the ministries and organizations for best display, best snack/giveaway, and most new member sign-ups.

Throughout the entire picnic will be kids’ activities, BINGO, a Corn Hole Tournament, refreshments/snacks, and Good Shepherd’s Got Talent. This “Talent Show” will feature entertainment provided by our very own parishioners.  You don’t want to miss it!

At 3:00 p.m., the dinner part of the picnic will start. The parish will provide Chicken Corn Noodle Soup, Pulled Pork, Beef BBQ, Baked Beans, Macaroni and Cheese, and Soft Drinks. All households attending are asked to bring a cold side or dessert to share. Beer and wine will be available for purchase. There is no charge to attend. There will be an opportunity to make a free-will offering at the picnic.

It’s important to get a sense of the number of folks coming so we can prepare the right amount of food. Please see the sign-up instructions on page 9 of this week’s bulletin to find out how to do that.

So mark your calendars, think about what your covered dish will be, let us know you’re coming, and get ready for a fun parish family afternoon on August 20th!

Love and prayers,

Father Neil Sullivan
