Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

July 20, 2025

Dear Parish Family:

We’re smack dab in the middle of summer. Summer break is often a time for travel.  Whether it be by foot, bike, car, bus, train, ship, or plane, summer is a chance to go places.  We are all pilgrims on a journey. The most important journey: The Journey to Heaven.  The great part is that we don’t make the journey alone.   We make it with and toward God.  Jesus walks with us.  Mary and all the Saints cheer us on.

It is always important and powerful to remind ourselves of that.   A good way to do that is by beginning every trip—whether it be to the grocery store or across the globe – with prayer.

Here is a little prayer that I like to use:

OUR LADY OF THE HIGHWAY

O Lady of the Highway, be with us on our journey, for all your ways are beautiful and all your paths are peace. O God, who with unspeakable providence does rule and govern the world, grant unto us, your servants, through the intercessions of our watchful mother, to be protected from all danger and brought safely to the end of our journey. Amen.

And of course …

ANGEL OF GOD

Angel of God, my guardian dear, to whom God’s love commits me here, ever this day be at my side, to light and guard, to rule and guide. Amen.

Speaking of travel, Good Shepherd will have a bus going to the celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the canonization of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton in Emmitsburg on September 14, 2025.  It’s going to be great day.   Deluxe Motor Coach reservations are $35 per person.  Call the parish office for information.

Love and prayers,

  Father Neil Sullivan
