Dear Parish Family,
As we observe Labor Day this Monday, it is a great opportunity for us to reflect on the gift and dignity of human work. Work, whether it be inside or outside the home, professional or volunteer, simple or complicated, is a gift from God. We know that God himself is a “worker”. God the Father creates, God the Son redeems, and God the Holy Spirit sanctifies. The work we do is a participation in the life of God. If I truly understood as a kid, I think I would have been more eager to clean my room and do my chores as my parents assigned them to me.
My mother always told me that if it is worth doing, it’s worth doing well. No matter what the job, we should give it our best, always working and living as the best version of ourselves. The fruit of our labor says something about us. Not that we should be sinfully prideful in our work, but we should strive to do what we do to the best of our abilities. This is not to gain recognition or fame, but to give glory to God for the gifts, talents, and abilities He has given us.
A million thanks to everyone who works so hard for our Parish and share their gifts and support. Our parish staff, ministries, organizations, committees, and volunteers labor tirelessly to serve God and His people. Your time, talent, and treasure are honored and appreciated. They are never taken for granted. Please know I will be praying in an extra special way for you this Labor Day with gratitude and love.
Spirit of the Living God
bless the work
of our hands, our minds, our hearts.
May the work offered be a reflection
of all that is good within us.
In planning, creating, doing
grant us the courage to patiently listen
for the stirring of your Presence.
Grace us with joyful moments
in the midst of daily routine.
Enliven our spirits with humor.
Fill us with reverence for one another
and gratitude for our diversity.
Nourish our spirits with the awareness
that work is holy.
May unity, beauty and truth
be the fruit of our labor. Amen.
Happy and blessed Labor Day everyone! Love and prayers!
